LIONS WIN 20TH OF SEASON BY DEFEATING WESTERN 11-1
In the 3rd the Lions scored 4 unearned runs on only 2 singles as Western (3-14, 2-8)  made 2 errors and walked a batter.  Connor Klein drove in Dusty Stevens who had reached on an error by the right fielder and Perez who had walked and stole 2nd base.
Three back to back singles loaded the bases in the 4th as Scotty Tomassetti singled to center and the both Goldsack and Stevens had infield singles to the 3rd baseman.  Perez then hit a ball to the Warrior shortstop who booted the ball allowing 2 more unearned runs to score.
In the bottom of the 5th the Lions got four straight singles from Hager, Kingham, Cutolo and Billy Santiwan to score 2 runs and end the game.  The single by Santiwan keep his hitting streak alive at 11 games.  Kingham has hit safely in 10 straight games.
The Lions travel to Desert Oasis for a league game on Friday at 3:30 and then the 1st of two key match ups against Bishop Gorman will be played at Bishop Gorman on Saturday at 12:00.  It will be the 1st time Sierra Vista has played at Bishop Gorman as their field was just made playable this year.  The Lions own a 3-0 advantage over the Diamondback of Desert Oasis but trail Bishop Gorman 8-12 over the 8 previous years.  Last year Gorman won both game 8-0 and 11-9 on their way to their 4th straight Nevada State Championship.  Sierra Vista won the State Championship in 2005 to make it 5 years in a row for the Southwest Division of the Sunset League.  In the latest 4A Coaches poll of Southern Nevada Teams Gorman is ranked 1st with a record of 20-3 and Sierra Vista is 3rd with a record of 19-4.
Boxscore
Twenty wins in a season is a goal every high school team has.  It is a measure of success that is easily seen by everyone who is interested.  Sierra Vista has won 20 or more games in each of it's 9 years and was the 1st new school to win 20 in it's first season 2002.  Arbor View also won 20 games in it's first season 2005.  This was also a benchmark win for Coach Selby as it was the 225th Lion win during the nine years he has been the head coach.
Derron Davis started his 3rd game of the season and went the full 5 innings picking up his 3rd win against 0 losses.  He gave up 2 singles but walked 4 while striking out 4.
Offensively the Lions (20-4, 9-0) collected 11 hits with every starter except Armando Perez getting at least one.  Blair Goldsack had 2 singles in 3 at bats, and Julian Cutolo and Jake Hager were both 2 for 4.  Hager had a double in the 1st inning and Cutolo had a solo homerun in the 1st inning, his 3rd homerun of the season.  Cutolo's batting average slipped a point to .527 on the year and Hager's stayed at .500.  Nick Kingham drove in his 42 run of the year in the 5th inning to lead the Lions in that catagory.
The Lions scored in the 1st inning on Hager's double and a 2 base throwing error by the Warriors catcher after Kingham had struck out swinging.  Cutolo followed with his homerun to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

STEVENS & KLEIN  PITCH, HIT LIONS TO 11-2 WIN OVER DESERT OASIS
Dusty Stevens pitched a complete game 3 hitter to move his record to 4-0 and give the Lions their 21st win on the year and their 10th Southwest Division win.  Stevens gave up 2 Baltimore chop doubles over Connor Klein's head at 3rd base in the 1st inning and then a ground ball single up the middle in the 5th.  He struck out 5, walked 2 and hit 2 batters.
Offensively the Lions (21-4, 10-0) scored in 5 different innings and never trailed.  Marquis Towers doubled to left field to lead off the game but was thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch it into a triple.  Jake Hager and Nick Kingham then drew walks and scored on Billy Santiwan's triple to right center.  Hager walked in the 2nd, stole 2nd base, advanced on a throwing error by the catcher and scored on Julian Cutolo's single to center for the Lions 3rd run.  Scotty Tomassetti lead off the 4th with his 3rd homerun on the season to left field.  Alex Estrella doubled to right center and later scored on a wild pitch. Towers scored after reaching on a fielders choice, going to 2nd on a wild pitch and stealing 3rd and home.
Connor Klein hit his 2nd homerun of the year for the Lions in the 6th inning and followed that with another homerun in the 7th to highlight a 4 run inning.  Cutolo and Santiwan also had back to back doubles in the 7th and Blair Goldsack singled ahead of Klein's homerun.
The Lions travel to Bishop Gorman tomorrow for a showdown for 1st place in the Southwest Division.  Gorman (22-3, 10-0) has won 13 straight games.  Sierra Vista has a 8 game winning streak and has won 15 of their last 16 games.  The two teams will play the 2nd game of the series Saturday, May 1 at Lions Field as they fight it out for the Southwest Championship.

GAME 1 - GORMAN 6-5
Bishop Gorman (23-3, 11-0) scored single runs in both the 4th and 5th innings after falling behind Sierra Vista (21-5, 10-1) 4-5 in the top of the 4th.  Cory Welch, the Gorman pitcher, retired 6 of the next 7 hitters with only Connor Klein reaching on an error to secure the win and move Gorman into a 1 game lead over the Lions in the Southwest Division.
Gorman scored 2 runs in the 1st inning when Johny Sewald doubled to right center to lead off the inning and T.J. White drew a walk.  Sewald scored and White went to 2nd base on  stolen bases as Scotty Tomassetti over threw 3rd base to allow Sewald to score.  White then advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and scored later on Joey Gallo's soft single into right field.
The Lions answered in the top of the 3rd with a run as Alex Estrella got the 1st hit of the game for the Lions, followed by a single to right by Blair Goldsack to move Estrella to 3rd base.  Marquis Towers stuck out swinging but Jake Hager doubled into left field to score Estrella.  The Gaels answered that run with 2 more of their own as Nick Kingham hit the first 2 batters and Billy Santiwan misplayed a potential double play ball at 2nd base to allow one run to score and the other scored on a sac fly by Welch.
Sierra Vista sent 9 batters to the plate in the 4th inning, collecting 4 singles to score 4 runs and take the lead.  Gorman also committed 2 errors in the inning as they threw 2 balls into the Lion dugout.  Julian Cutolo lead off the inning with an infield single and advanced to 2nd on a throwing error by Shortstop Gallo.  Santiwan struck out but Estrella singled to left to move Cutolo to 3rd base.  White then wild pitched Estrella to 2nd and Goldsack singled to center to score both runs. He advancing to 2nd on the throw to the plate.  Connor Klein walked and Towers singled to left to drive in Goldsack and move Klein to 3rd base.  Hager then reached on a throwing error by White at 3rd allowing Klein to score the go ahead run.  Kingham was thrown out at 1st by White to end the inning even though the 3rd baseman had bobbled a ground ball.  The call was questionable as it appeared Kingham had beaten the thrown which would have scored another run and kept the inning alive.
The Gaels tied the score in the bottom of the 4th when Wesley Denzler doubled off the left center field fence, advanced on a ground ball to1st bases and scored on a perfect drag bunt single by Sewald with 2 outs.
The winning run scored in the bottom of the 5th inning as Kingham put the leadoff hitter on with a walk and then wild pitched him to 2nd base..  After a inflield out Gallo and Lawhorn singled to drive in the run.  With runners on 1st and 2nd Denzler hit a high fly to the right field fence and Estrella made a great catch as he ran into the fence.  Kingham got the 3rd out to end the inning but Estrella had broken his wrist as he ran into the fence post of the chain link fence in right field.
Kingham went 6 innings picking up his 1st lose of the season.  He struck out 5, walked 2 and hit 2 batters.  All 4 of the hitters who were walkd or hit by pitch eventrually scored.
The rematch will take place next Saturday at Lion Field at 12:00 in the last weekend of the regular season.  If the Lions win they would tie with Gorman, assuming that both teams win out with their other league games.  By wining the last game the Lions would be the 1st place team in the playoffs but both would get a home game in the 1st game of the playoffs.  The remainder of the playoffs with the Northwest Division will either be played at Lion Field or at Centennial.  Sites to be determined as the results of the games are played.
The Lionsl travel to Pahrumph for a 3:30 game on Monday and host Spring Valley on Wednesday at 3:30 before the rematch against Gorman on Saturday at 12:00.
