STATE CHAMPIONS
There are now 3 former Lions playing professional baseball as Mark Baca joined Chris Carter and Justin Garcia when he signed a contract with the Pittsburg Pirates Organization.  He is playing in the New York Penn League with the State College Spikes.

Twelve Sierra Vista graduates will either begin their college education or continue towards a degree while playng baseball.  There are 8 former Lions at Division I schools, 2 at Division II, and 6 at Community Colleges.  For the first time Sierra Vista will be represented in two of the best baseball conferences:  Lance Ray attends the University of Kentucky in the Southeast Conference and Matt Klein goes to Oklahoma State University in the Big 12 Conference.  The Mountain West Conference will have Chad Claus, Justin Baca and Scott Berke at UNLV and Drew Leary at San Diego State University.  Chuck Howard returns to New Mexico State University from the Western Athletic Conference.  Division II schools will have Kyle Kutchewsky at New Mexico Highlands University and Rich Michelin at Cal Luthern University.  Kiel Harman returns to CSN and Brooks Klein joins Andrew Garcia in Carson City to attend Western Nevada.  David DeCarlo, Kyle Gamble, Tommy Barnes and Matt Holman will all begin their college education and play for McCook Community College in Nebraska.

LIONS WIN 5TH IN A ROW OVER DESERT OASIS 9-3
  Sierra Vista (9-3, 3-0) won their 5th game in a row as they defeated Desert Oasis 9-3. This was the start a 7 game home stand.  Jake Hager had a 3 for 3 day at the plate with a single, double, and triple to drive in 3 runs.  Julian Cutolo, who leads the Lions in batting average at .531 had 2 singles in 3 at bats and drove in 3 runs.
  The Diamondbacks walked 8 Lions and had 3 wild pitches to help the Lions who had 9 hits.  Hager scored in the 1st inning after he doubled down the left field line after Marquis Towers had struck out to lead off the inning.  Hager stole 3rd base and scored on Joe Paruture's 1st wild pitch of the game.  In the 3rd ining the Lions scored 2 runs on just 1 hit, a single by Cutolo, as Paruture walked 4 before being relieved by Mike Maiello.  Toweres reached on an error in the 4th and scored on Hager's triple to right center.  Cutolo later had his 2nd single to drive in Hager to give the Lions a 5-2 lead.  The lead went to 7-2 in the 5th innings as the Lions scored 2 more runs on a double by Blain Goldsack and single by Hager.  Maiello helped the Lions in the 6th as he walked 2 batters and hit one in the inning.  In the 6th, triples by Billy Santiwan and Goldsack and a single by Connor Klein increased the total to 9 runs.
  Dusty Stevens pitched the first 6 inings giving up 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.  He also hit a batter and had 2 wild pitches.  goldsack closed the game in the 7th innings giving up a single.
  Palo Verde visits Lion Field on Saturday at 12:00 for a non league game before the Durango Tournament begins on Monday.  The first game is against Narbonne, CA at 8:00 AM.  The Lions play their 2nd game of the day at 10:45 against Sylmar, CA.  Tuesday they play Conquitlam B.C. at 8:00 AM.
